Novena August 30 - September 7

Novena August 30 - September 7

Dear Members of the De La Salle Community:

Novena August 30 - September 7

You are kindly asked to join me in praying this novena for the intention of the success and good health of all this school year. Let us raise our hearts in prayer to ask the Lord for help and protection.

Thank you,

Brother Domenic, fsc

Day One

Oh Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, we place in you all our interests and desires. Saint Joseph, assist us by your powerful intercession and obtain for us all spiritual blessings through the Child Jesus, so that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, we may offer you our gratitude and homage.

Saint Joseph, we never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. As the Child Jesus reposes near your heart, bring to him all our needs in these days. Saint Joseph, Patron of the people of Canada and our Institute, pray for us and the health all the faithful. Amen.

Day Two

Loving God, the Holy One, your desire is for wholeness and well-being of all your creatures. We hold in tenderness and prayer the collective suffering of those most vulnerable during this time of pandemic. We grieve for any precious lives lost, and lives which may be threatened. We pray for ourselves and our neighbours, as we stand before an uncertain future. Inspire our leaders to discern and choose wisely, alignIng their decisions with the common good. Help us to practise physical distancing and reveal to us new and creative ways to come together in spirit and in solidarity. Call us to profound trust in your faithful presence, you, the God who does not abandon, you, the Holy One, living with us and reigning for us. Amen.

Day Three

Lord Jesus, we thank you for the gift of good health and peace of mind that we have enjoyed for so many years. As we find ourselves in this time of crisis today, we asked for your divine intervention and mercy as Divine Physician. Calm and guide the minds of those working to discover a treatment for COVID-19. Grant us wisdom, knowledge, and clarity of mind, so that all peoples will be free from the threat of this ailment. We also pray for the healthcare workers who are standing on the front lines of this battle. Lord, we thank you for their generous hearts of service, putting the needs of society before their own, generously responding to the cry of your people. We ask that you will grant them strength and protection. As they give themselves to selfless service, may you grant them the inspiration of your Holy Spirit. We pray for those afflicted with this ailment. Merciful Saviour, grant them the grace that they may recover swiftly and continue to be witnesses of your love in their lives. Mother Mary, we ask for your intercession in this great time of need. Cover each of us with your blue mantle of protection, so that we may be preserved in good health to continue to glorify your son, Jesus. Amen.

Day Four

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, Queen of Angels and Saints, we fly to you today as your beloved children. We ask you to intercede for us with your Divine Son, as you did at the wedding in Cana. Pray for us, loving Mother, and gain for our nation and world, and for all our families and loved ones, the protection of your holy angels and saints, that we may be spared the worst of this illness. For those that are affected, we ask you to obtain the grace of healing and deliverance. Hear the cries of those vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust. In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in your Church to love one another and to be patient and kind. Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and our hearts.

We come to you with confidence, knowing that you are truly our compassionate Mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy. Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen

Day Five

Dear Jesus, may we who are merely inconvenienced remember those whose lives are at stake. May we who have no risk factors remember those are most vulnerable. May those who will have the luxury of working from home remember those who must choose between preserving their health or paying their bills. May those who have the flexibility to care for their children if schools close remember those who have no options. May those who have to cancel their trips remember those who have no place to go. May we who are losing our marginal money in the economic market remember those who have no margin at all. May we who may need to settle in for quarantine at home remember those have no home. During this time, we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other as usual, let us know let us yet find ways to be the loving presence of God to our neighbours. Amen.

Day Six

Oh Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and hope. We can trust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, we come to you to beg your protection. Mother of the Divine Physician who healed the sick and raised the dead, ask you Son Jesus to keep us safe and healthy in order to do the will of God in our regard. We fly to your protection, Mother of the Word Incarnate, hear our petitions and in your mercy hear our prayers. Amen.

Day Seven

Gloria Saint Anne, we think of you as filled with compassion for those who invoke you and love for those who suffer. Heavenly Lady, laden with the weight of our troubles, we cast ourselves at your feet and humbly beg of you to take the present affair we recommend to you under your special protection. We pray that you protect us all from the contagion of the coronavirus. Deign to commend our intentions to your Daughter, our Blessed Lady, and lay our prayers before the throne of Jesus so that he may bring it to a happy conclusion. Good Saint Anne, Patroness of Canada and Mother of Her, who is our life, our sweetness and our hope, protect our country Canada. Amen.

Day Eight

Oh St. John Baptist De La Salle, true model of tender charity for our neighbour, and who, while insensible to a life of suffering, did ever show yourself eager to relieve others, extend to us this tender compassion. Obtain for us, dear and powerful protector, together with the deliverance of our spiritual infirmities, the cure of our corporal maladies. Let the efficacy your intercession shine forth once more, so that, in the joy of our gratitude, we may sing and proclaim the glory of God in the Holy Presence of God that heals and renews all things. Amen.

Day Nine

Remember, most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, employed your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we fly onto you, Virgin of virgins, our Mother, to you we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful. Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer us. Amen.
