Family Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the Month of June

The prayers of the Sacred Heart take us deep into the heart of our self, and lead us to God. We do not find confusing or an overly complex intellectuality, but a simple heart-to-heart with the Lord, and the silence of our hearts.

We can grow in holiness by weaving through our day the constant repetition of the Jesus prayer and also the short prayer for Sacred Heart of Jesus: "I placed all my trust in you." In another tradition, that of Eastern Christian spirituality, which differs from the Sacred Heart devotion, we nonetheless see some similarity, as the constant repetition of the Jesus prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner." This can very much be a prayer of the Sacred Heart with its focus on the mercy which is central to the spiritual theme of the Sacred Heart.

Heart Speaks to Heart - A Pastoral Letter by Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto

Opening Prayer:

Most loving Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, behold us before you. We are yours and yours we wish to be. But to be more surely united to you, before us, we freely present ourselves today to Your Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known you. Many today, too, despising your precepts, reject you. Have mercy on us all, most merciful Jesus, and draw us back to your Sacred Heart and love of Your Way, Your Truth and Your Life.

* Oh Jesus, you have said - "Truly I say to you ask, and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be open to you. Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace to grow in my faith.

*Oh my Jesus, you have said - "Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Behold in your name, I asked the Father for the grace to follow His commandments.

* Oh my Jesus, you have said - "Truly I say to you heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." Encouraged by your words of truth, I now ask for the grace of a fuller love of my neighbour.

We pray for Church leaders and those who minister in your name, may they lead lives of holiness and seek to be true witnesses to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

For world leaders, may they govern with integrity and justice so the peoples of every nation may live in peace and dignity.

For the poor, the homeless, refugees and all who live in the margins of society, may they know the goodness and consolation of their loving God through the help and support of the human family.

For those who have lost loved ones as a result of war or violence, may they find comfort in the saving presence of God and the concern and support of family and friends.

For the terminally ill and all those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit, may they walk hand-in-hand with God to receive comfort and strength in their pain, fear, and anxiety.

We continue to pray for an end to the pandemic and for the welfare and health of our family and friends, and for our school community.

We pray for those whose faith has been weakened, that they may rediscover through a stronger devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus a renewed appreciation of the presence of God.

We pray for all young people that they will be inspired by the life of Jesus, Our Mother Mary and the Holy Apostles, a life of faith, hope and charity according to the truths of the Gospel.

Our Father ...

Hail Mary ...

Glory Be ...

Closing Prayer:

Sacred Heart of Jesus, grant us the grace to be truly courageous and compassionate in these days of confusion when our world is in need of healing, a healing that only you can give us. Help us to honour the sanctity of life, the importance of forgiveness and mercy and a resolve to be bearers of your Gospel at all times, even when it is most difficult. Grant us the gift of making our hearts like your heart. Amen.
