Dear Staff and Students,
We hope you are all staying healthy and safe!
Over the past few months, the Lasallian Youth Team has been working hard to find ways to continue as a student-based service club and to support others in the community during our time at home. One of our main goals this year is to plan virtual initiatives to fundraise for Meagan’s Hug. De La Salle has supported this foundation for twenty years, and each year we participate in events like the Crane Ceremony, t-shirt and bracelet sales, and the school-wide hug. Although these events cannot happen in person this year, we have come up with many ways to raise money and spread awareness virtually for Meagan’s Hug and pediatric brain tumour research.
On January 28 and 29, members of the Lasallian Youth Team presented Zoom workshop presentations for the TCDSB iLite Leadership Conference. We created engaging presentations to teach Grade 7 and 8 students about Meagan and her story, and we shared our own stories about the impact Meagan’s Hug has had on our lives. Our main goals were to spread awareness, encourage fundraising, and spark new ideas for future initiatives at the TCDSB schools. We were very grateful to get the opportunity to advocate for Meagan’s Hug and felt it was a great way to kick-off our fundraising year.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we present to you our first Meagan’s Hug fundraising initiative this year: The Valentine’s Day Cookbook! This online cookbook is filled with over 30 recipes of delicious starters and sides, main courses, and desserts from our team, staff members, and families; there is truly something for everyone! With the help of the Student Council, the cookbook will be sold on the online Del Store from Friday, January 29 to Sunday, February 14, for $10 a copy. All proceeds will go towards the Meagan’s Hug Foundation and pediatric brain tumour research. A beautiful document will be e-mailed to you after your purchase. It is the perfect gift to send to a loved one this Valentine’s Day or to use as a guide to improving your cooking skills. Make sure you buy this limited-edition cookbook before it’s too late, and help us fundraise for a great cause!
Thank you so much for your support!
