Each year we strive to do as much as we can to help ease the burden of the more disadvantaged of our city, especially around the holiday season. Holy Rosary Parish once again appealed to our school for assistance in asking the Grades 5-8 students to provide and assemble men's toiletry care packages as part of the "Out of the Cold" program for the homeless that visit them throughout the cold winter months. The "Out of the Cold" program serves many of the poor and homeless in the city. At Holy Rosary, each year, in addition to serving hot meals and providing a place to stay, they host a Christmas season social. During this event each guest receives some necessities including hats, scarves, and mitts, as well as the toiletry packs our students assembled.
This year each grade was assigned a particular item to donate. Once we received the items, students spent the morning on November 22 packing ziploc bags with the items, writing Christmas cards to those who will receive the packages and enjoying a festive treat and hot chocolate graciously provided by parent volunteers.
Participation from our students was outstanding, assembling around 130 bags, ready for distribution, and several boxes of extra items donated, such as tooth paste and Kleenex. A big thank you to the students (and parents) who participated in the drive for your generosity and kindness towards those who are in need! We also want to thank all of the parents who brought in yummy goodies and took time out of their morning to join the students.
