Earlier this year, our Grade 5's learned about sustainability by building birdfeeders using only materials they could find in their home. If a material was not available, they had to get creative and find an alternative! Through applying the scientific method, they came up with a design, determined if it could work with the materials available to them, constructed the birdfeeder and then took regular observations for five days. Students then compiled and presented a short report evaluating the success of their materials and their lessons learned. The activity brought out some very creative designs as well as some avid bird watchers!
