Theatre De La Salle to Celebrate 70 Years with Epic Musical LES MISÉRABLES
Victor Hugo’s classic novel will come to life to celebrate Theatre De La Salle’s 70th Anniversary when this Tony Award-winning musical hits the De La Salle stage in April 2020.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misèrables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, and sacrifice – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
Winner of over 100 international awards, Les Misérables follows repentant-criminal, Jean Valjean, in his lifelong struggle to live out his redemption amidst the turmoil of 19th-century France. Relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, whose legalistic mind demands justice be served, he and Valjean clash throughout the show in a spiritual struggle between God’s Grace and The Law.
Les Misérables is peppered with glorious characters: the virtuous Fantine, struggling to provide for her sick daughter; feisty Eponine, whose love for Marius goes unrequited as he pines for the more refined Cosette; Enjolras, passionate leader of the student revolutionaries; and the thieving Thenardiers who roam the streets of France looking for their next big score.
All the debauchery of Valjean’s France beautifully highlights his goodness as he maneuvers the revolutionary landscape as Christ’s follower, being “in the world but not of the world” and coming to the realization that “to love another person is to see the face of God.”
Over 75 De La Salle students from Grades 5-12 responded to the open casting call and auditioned for the many coveted “Les Mis” roles. Congratulations to everyone who will “join in our crusade” over the next seven months, including David De Martin as Jean Valjean, Stefania De Martin as Inspector Javert, Poppy Brookes as Fantine, and Angelica Sabilano as Éponine. The show will also feature AJ Bailey and Caitlyn Pinto as the Thenardiers, Jody Connors as Cosette and we’re thrilled to welcome back to our stage Matteo de Florentiis as Marius.
