The Passion Play is a dramatic presentation depicting the Passion of Jesus Christ: his trial, suffering and death. It is a traditional part of Lent in several Christian denominations, particularly in Catholic tradition.
Last week, the Grades 10 and 11 Drama Students staged a Passion Play of their own for the school community, the first of its kind at De La Salle. Conceived by Mr. Luchka, the Play began with a tableau of The Last Supper. Jesus, portrayed with great humility by Connor Cutler, addresses his disciples and announces that one of them will betray him.
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Satan (played silkily by Jon Cucchiella) tempts Jesus until Judas (Alex Arazyan) arrives to betray him. Judas is later consumed by his guilt as Satan hovers above him. “What I see in Judas is what I see in so many people – weakness, despair. Is it any wonder so many people turn to me?”
