2019 Pro-Con Debating Finals

2019 Pro-Con Debating Finals

On Saturday, April 27, De La Salle sent teams in all three age divisions to the Ontario Pro-Con Debating Forum Finals at Michael Power CHS. That is and of itself is laudable as only the schools who ranked in the top four after the four debate competitions of the year are invited to the finals. To qualify one team is great – to qualify three is excellent!

The novice team was represented by Aedan McNally, Tony Yu, Sarah Costa, and Alex Wasti. The Junior team was represented by Chloe Robillard, Victor Buklis, Mateo Faria-Lopes, and Mikayla Lorini. The Senior team was represented by Christian D’Ambrosi, Isabella Spensieri, Ashley Costa, and Lilian Yoffee.

It was a very tight competition. For example, in the Junior division, all 4 teams finished with a 3 wins–3 losses record and the difference between 2nd and 4th was literally 0.7! All our debaters performed admirably, and the Novice team finished 2nd in their division.

Once again, our Senior team was able to dominate the competition. Individually, Ashley Costa finished 2nd overall and Isabella Spensieri finished 1st!  And it is with great pride that we can say that our Senior team finished 1st overall and brought home the trophy!

Congratulations to all the competitors and all the other members of the team who came to practice helping prepare arguments and lines of questioning.  Thank you to the parents who came out to assist us with judging – they were able to enjoy some excellent debating!  It was a great year of Debating at De La Salle.
