Each year our students, their families and the staff of De La Salle pull together during the Advent season to collect food and monetary donations for two organizations that serve those in need. The first is the “Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd” – a religious order dedicated to the service of the poor and marginalized who run the Good Shepherd Centre. The Centre is a multi-service facility that provides 91 emergency shelter beds, serves over 1000 hot meals a day and offers support to the homeless and those impacted by substance abuse. The other organization we support is an international organization called Mary’s Meals. They provide food for children that live in some of the most impoverished communities in the world when they come to school.
Over the Advent seasons, students bring food and monetary donations to the school and, in a friendly competitive spirit, see which classes can raise the most to support our Food Drive. In addition to classroom competition, the Lasallian Youth Team challenged the Houses to see who among them could collect the highest number of donations.
In total, De La Salle raised over 8900 combined items and dollars for our two worthy charities. Congratulations to Br. Xavier House that brought in the most money and food, and to Ms. Wunder and her Gr. 7b class for being the top class with 42 items per student. Thank you to our entire community, as we reaffirm our commitment to helping those in need both at home and abroad.
