Celebrating the Advent and Christmas Season

Celebrating the Advent and Christmas Season

With seven instructional days to go until our Christmas Break, it is hard to believe how quickly the school year is moving along. During the season of Advent, it is important to take a step back and be grateful for the many blessings we have and reflect upon the ways we can strengthen our relationships with family, friends and God.

Wednesday’s Christmas Concert was an excellent opportunity for the entire De La Salle Community to celebrate the incredible talents and creativity of our students. As I mentioned during the concert, it is incumbent upon us as educators and parents to provide the encouragement and the opportunities for students to foster their appreciation of the arts.

The last number of weeks have provided us with many occasions to come together as a community. The Cadet Battalion Ball was held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 in the Heritage House. The evening was a great reminder of how our cadets conduct themselves with class and decorum. They are to be commended for their leadership throughout the school. On Thursday our Grades 5 and 6 classes enjoyed an afternoon of skating and Christmas treats.

We were very fortunate to have PC McGarry address our students earlier in the week. While she discussed the pertinent issues with respect to social media, the crux of her presentation focused on the need for us to treat each other with respect and dignity. PC McGarry will be back on Monday to speak with students in Grades 5-7.

Thank you for your on-going support of the very important mission of the college. While there is always work to do, we are very proud of our students. One of the greatest challenges is keeping our students (and ourselves) grounded and empathetic when we are surrounded by examples of excess. It is important for all of us to conduct ourselves with humility while leading by example and “speaking less than we know.”

On a final note, I hope you take the time to connect with family and share the true meaning of Christmas. The investment we make in our relationships now will pay off in a lifetime of positive memories for our sons and daughters.

Have a restful weekend.
