Reserve Fund for Tuition Assistance
Dear Members of the De La Salle Community,
We hope that you and your family are safe and healthy during these most challenging times. As you are aware, the school has taken steps over the last few weeks to ensure the good health of students, their families, and staff. We have implemented a robust online learning program led by one of our Vice Principals, Mr. Voutsinos, an alumnus of the College, to engage students and allow them to continue with their learning.
Our staff remains committed to dedicating their time and efforts from home to provide a predictable and engaging learning environment. The school will meet all of its obligations, ensuring teacher compensation until the end of the academic year. Further, we will move forward with planning for the coming year, as we await further direction and instruction from the Government of Ontario.
As you know, an education from De La Salle College is a proven asset. It provides tremendous academic opportunities to graduates while also empowering them to become models of Christian charity in the service of others. It is an education that has the power to transform lives, particularly for those whom it might normally be out of reach.
At present, De La Salle College is committed to providing financial assistance to 116 students. They come from hardworking families that value the importance of investing in an authentic and rigorous Catholic education, often making great sacrifices to provide such an opportunity for their children. Many of those students are receiving full tuition assistance, averaging approximately $10,000 per student.
Affordable tuition promotes accessibility to many families that see the importance of investing in a Catholic School Community dedicated to student formation and education. The school extends further support to all its families with a Religious Portion Donation Receipt that is roughly half of the tuition – in other words, everyone benefits.
In keeping with the mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle to provide access to education for those who need it most, the College is committed to continuing to offer bursaries to students for the coming academic year. Prior to the significant challenges we all face from COVID-19, we made that commitment to all of our new and returning students who requested assistance. With the recent shutdown of many businesses and the ensuing economic hardships, the need for tuition aid has never been greater. We want to make sure that we can provide it for families in their time of need.
To ensure that we can continue to support as many students as possible, we are asking for your help in creating a reserve fund where families can apply for financial assistance should they be affected by COVID-19. Our goal is to raise $250,000 to help continue providing a Lasallian education to these students.
We appreciate that many of you have made donations in recent months, and we are grateful for your affinity to the College. However, we are inviting you to consider giving to this extraordinary fund – any amount you can give is more than helpful. As always, all donations made will be eligible for a donation receipt.
Over the coming few weeks, our Development Office will be reaching out to you to participate in this worthy cause. If you would like to support the fund now, you can visit our giving page online to donate.
I want to thank you in advance for your consideration. May you and your loved ones be blessed with good health, and please stay safe, and it is our hope, as yours, that we experience some level of normalcy soon.
Brother Domenic Viggiani, fsc
Director of Alumni Affairs and Development
