December Reflection from Brother Domenic

It is probably true that Christmas still represents the most anticipated feast or holiday on the calendar. It is also true, I think, that once the school term begins in September that we are increasingly engulfed by one holiday or another that we practically slide into Christmas before we even know it. Labour Day has barely disappeared and we are into Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is now a mere prelude to the national feast of Hallowe'en. Hallowe'en articles are moved off the shelves to make way for Christmas decorations even before we push Santa Claus down University Avenue. These days we even seem to embrace some aspects of American Thanksgiving in order to take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

How do we begin to settle down and prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ amidst such frenzy?

Celebrating the Lenten and Christmas Season

With seven instructional days to go until our Christmas Break, it is hard to believe how quickly the school year is moving along. During the season of Advent, it is important to take a step back and be grateful for the many blessings we have and reflect upon the ways we can strengthen our relationships with family, friends and God.

Important Reminders

Complimentary PRESTO Cards from the TTC

The TTC will be providing PRESTO cards to all students free of charge. The purpose of this initiative is to help students make the transition away from TTC passes (which will be discontinued at the end of this month) and tickets (which will be discontinued Summer 2019), to the PRESTO fare card as smooth as possible. Del should be receiving PRESTO cards before the winter break begins so that students in Grades 7-12 who usually purchase a monthly pass to travel to and from school have theirs for the start of the new year. While children up to 12 years old will continue to ride the TTC for free, children 6-12 years of age will be required to tap a PRESTO card every time they enter a subway station and whenever they board a bus or streetcar. For more information on the PRESTO card, click here.

Annual Christmas Food Drive

As many of you know, the Annual Christmas Food Drive is a successful and long-standing tradition at De La Salle College, and an excellent way of living the Advent season. This year, collection days will be on each Day 2 during Period 1 beginning on Friday, November 30 and ending on Friday, December 14. Students should bring any and all items directly to that classroom to be counted and sorted. For more information, click here.

Mid-Term Exam Schedule and Procedures

As a reminder, mid-term examinations will begin on Monday, January 21, 2019.
