February 2, 2018 | Vol. 1 No. 11 February Reflection from Brother Domenic The Liturgical Apathy & the Proclamation of the Kingdom Over the last few years in particular I have written to the De La Salle Community about many aspects of the liturgical life, especially as this relates to our young people. For most today, the concept of liturgy is usually limited to the "Mass" as Roman Catholics understand it. It is necessary to say from the outset that in the Catholic Church there exists many other Eucharistic rites and, naturally, other sacraments. Some, but not all, have been modified by the Second Vatican Council and have seen a gradual reform of the reforms since then. Until the official approval of the Novus Ordo – the Mass of Blessed Paul VI – the Roman rite had a fairly constant form going back centuries. St. John Baptist de La Salle, who had a high regard for the beauty of the Mass of Pius V, placed much importance on the liturgy in the Christian Schools.
The Advent Season I'm sure you are breathing a sigh of relief along with your children now that exam writing is behind us. Believe it or not there was a sense of calm at the school during exam week which was more prevalent this year than in the past. This may have been an indicator that demonstrates our students were better prepared and/or were able to set in motion, strategies to deal with the stress.
