Dear De La Salle Community,
Yesterday students and teachers joined together on a beautiful spring morning for our Annual Hug on the field. We had the opportunity to listen to two very powerful messages from Meagan's Walk founder Denise Bebenek and MW Hero Carolynn on the impact brain tumours have had on their lives. After these inspirational words, we found our way to the center of the field and embraced each other in a hug of hope.
To continue with the festivities, students were treated to an ice cream truck during all three lunches where the Del MW Committee began their two-week long fundraising initiatives, raising over $200.
As you know, Del has a very special connection with Meagan's Walk because Meagan's siblings, Sarah Grace and Matthew Bebenek, attended De La Salle. It is through our constant support of this cause that we have contributed over $75,000 in the past. The fight against brain tumors is very personal for us and we have an obligation to contribute to a change.
This year our fundraising goal is to surpass our $10,000 mark. So to continue towards our goal, we have several initiatives planned for the coming weeks:
All of the proceeds from these initiatives will go directly to the Meagan's Walk charity and their many plans to advance brain tumour research. To view their 2019 Walk video (featuring De La Salle) click here.
Finally, the actual Meagan's Walk will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2019. Participating in the walk is an incredibly rewarding experience, especially when everyone gathers around Sick Kids for the final hug and seeing the children smiling down out of their hospital room windows. We invite you all to join us in experiencing the magic of the walk and the Hug, by registering for the Walk and joining Team De La Salle here.
Annually our community comes together to join in the spirit of fundraising and we have repeatedly watched students and families respond to the call to action. As Lasallians, we come together uniquely and in solidarity as volunteers and as donors to participate in the annual walk to experience the most wonderful HUG around SICK KIDS Hospital.
