The Advanced Placement Program offers 33 university-level courses and exams, in multiple disciplines designed for highly motivated students at De La Salle College. Each course is developed by a committee made up of college faculty and AP teachers.  Members of these Development Committees are appointed by the College Board and serve for overlapping terms of up to four years.

The AP Program enriches and encourages critical thinking; promotes creative thought; and fine-tunes analytical skills while stretching students’ reasoning ability.  For more information on our AP Program:

The Continuing Education program give students the opportunity to have learning experiences outside of the regular day program at De La Salle. It is comprised of two main programs; a summer program and an experiential learning program.

The summer program is designed to either assist students build on what they've already learned, or to help students get ahead. Students who have had challenges in core courses such as math or English may enroll in the summer program to build on the foundational knowledge they have already acquired. The summer program also gives students who excel in certain courses the opportunity to get ahead so that they can take additional electives, or have additional time to focus on other courses. In both scenarios, the summer program is available to new De La Salle students in the summer prior to their first full year of school. 

The experiential learning program takes students outside of the classroom and into the real world. There are three opportunities currently available to De La Salle students:

In grades 9 and 10, students have the option of enrolling in one of two credit courses; a food and culture course, or an Arts and Entertainment course. Both courses take place in Term 2, and include spending the March break in New York City. Some highlights include: cooking classes lead by New York City restauranteurs, a stroll through Central Park, attending a Broadway show, and visiting historic museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Students in grades 11 and 12 can enrol in a Leadership course in California that enables them the opportunity to explore the benefits of lifelong participation in active recreation. Some highlights include a workout at the famous Venice Beach, learning to surf, and going for a hike in Big Sur.

Students in grade 12 have an additional option to study grade 12 English in Italy during the summer prior to their grade 12 year. Along with earning a full English academic credit, some highlights include visiting Vatican City, learning how to cook an authentic Tuscan meal of fresh pasta or pizza, and studying in the romantic setting of Verona that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Please note that the Continuing Education program is only open to students who attend De La Salle.

De La Salle College is offering new programs for students entering Grades 9-12 in 2022 that will provide opportunities for students to combine their learning with travel that reinforces the knowledge of the course. Experiential learning improves social and teamwork skills, as well as develops students’ independence all as they learn new skills. Earning additional credits also helps to create flexibility in a students’ timetable and schedule. These courses are designed for students who are enrolled at De La Salle College.

Every morning classroom doors open for homeroom at 8:10am and students report to the same classroom daily where they attend morning assembly together. When students return to their classroom following morning assembly, there may be a discussion or short activity to start the day. Activities include a discussion on current events, a faith-based activity, or an ice breaker activity run by house leaders. When the activity is over, students will be dismissed from homeroom and proceed with their day. Homeroom gives the students the opportunity to develop a close network of students in various grades which strengthen the De La Salle community. Homeroom groups remain the same until a student graduates.

The House System brings together students of different ages and grade levels to participate in many school activities and events and promotes the values of community, fraternity and responsible leadership. Each student is assigned to one of the six houses that make up the House System. These houses are dedicated in honour of six De La Salle Brothers who made an extraordinary contribution to the life of the College. Each house has student leader representatives who are responsible for organizing school wide activities so that students can compete for the coveted annual House Cup. House leaders also organize weekly activities in homeroom that promote community within the classroom. 

Lasallian Youth, Student Council, House Leaders, Captains club, Peer tutoring, De La Salle Cadets, and Link Crew are just a few of the ways that students can get involved in leadership groups at De La Salle. Although these are formal opportunities, student leadership does not require a fancy title or membership in a group or club. Students at De La Salle are expected to conduct themselves in an exemplary manner at all times as all students are leaders in some capacity. Whether it’s in the cafeteria, corridors or classroom, students are always learning from one another and it is imperative that students act as a good example for
