President's Reflection- Call to the Del Community: Join the Consecration of Russia and Ukraine

Dear De La Salle Community:

On the Feast of the Annunciation, Friday, March 25th His Holiness, Pope Francis will be solemnly consecrating Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

As some may remember this was a request made to the Three Children of Fatima when Our Lady appeared them over one hundred years ago in Portugal. In 1984, St. John Paul II finally consecrated Russia and the entire world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Not long after, the Soviet Union began its collapse and there was a period of relative peace as indicated by Our Lady. The new Russian flag flew over the Kremlin in 1991.

Given the urgency of the situation between Russia and Ukraine, the very real possibility of expanded hostilities looms large. The Holy Father will reconsecrate these two nations at a ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica at 5:00 p.m. Rome time this Friday in the hope of advocating a peaceful resolution. The Pope has asked that all bishops around the world participate in this consecration and invite the faithful to join them.

Therefore, I am asking all of you to participate in some way. Here at the College, those who are able will be invited to gather in the school chapel at noon to say the Act of Consecration to Mary. Teachers and those of you who wish may be able to follow the ceremony from St. Peter’s live-streamed in your classrooms and on your computers.

We are all encouraged to support the Holy Father’s efforts and to pray for peace in this part of the world, in other parts of the world where war continues and for peace in the hearts of all people.

May Our Lady, Queen of Peace intercede with Her Son, Jesus Christ, the Centre and Peace of all Hearts, to obtain peace in our days.

Brother Domenic, fsc
