Brother Domenic Reflects on the Passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Dear Members of the De La Salle College Community:

We are saddened by the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who passed away today at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. In the Seventieth Year of Her Reign, having ascended the Throne in 1952 after the sudden death of her father, King George II.

For many generations, Queen Elizabeth II was the only Monarch of the Commonwealth we have known. She visited Canada on numerous occasions and viewed Canada with much fondness and as a favourite destination.

Queen Elizabeth II will be remembered not only for the length of her reign, the longest of any British monarch, but above-all for her extraordinary public service, strength of character, personal integrity and her deep sense of dedication to others. In an age of rapid and unpredictable change, Her Majesty stood in contrast to the selfishness of some in public service and the instabilities of the world of partisan politics. We will always recall her calmness and equanimity.

We ask Almighty God to receive into His bountiful mercy and love this good and faithful servant to the fulness and beauty of the Kingdom of Heaven. May Queen Elizabeth II be granted the peace and joy she rightly deserves.

We now pray for Her successor, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Philip, King Charles III. Long live, the King.
