Student Services: Information on OSSLT, Experiential Learning, Course Changes and University

NEWSLETTER

OSSLT

This year, Grade 10 and 11 students will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), intended to assess if students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. This year, the test will be running across Ontario between March 23rd and May 18th. De La Salle students will be writing an online test scheduled on several days through the upcoming weeks based on their grade and last name.  All students and parents have been provided details for the test and information is also posted on Schoology.

Experiential Learning

Starting this summer, Del is excited to begin our Experiential Learning program. We will begin by taking a group of Grade 11 students to Rome, to enhance their learning by travelling to the places that have influenced the books they will be studying.

We will continue our program during March Break 2023 with trips to California and New York. Both trips still have some availability so we will move forward with registration on a first-come/first serve basis. If you are still interested in registering for either of these trips, please follow the registration instructions below.

Course Changes

Prior to course selections, we met with Grade 10 students to review their choices for next year. Since then, we have been checking in with the Grade 11s to discuss their choices and ensure they are on track to graduate. We encourage any student who is unsure of their courses for next year to set up a meeting with any counsellor in Student Services. If a student is interested in changing their schedule for next year, they can complete an Add/Drop form attached below. This form can also be found on Schoology.

Ontario Universities:  Spring Virtual Events and Tours

For all Grade 11 students who are interested in exploring programs and campuses at Ontario universities, there are several virtual events being offered over March break. Take this opportunity to gather more information and gain insight on some of the universities you may be interested in learning more about! For our Grade 12 students who are continuing to make decisions about programs and offers and may have missed previous opportunities, this is a good opportunity for you to gather more insight so you can make a confident and informed decision!

For information about virtual events, tours, webinars and chats, we invite you to visit Tours and Events on OUInfo to see upcoming Ontario university virtual offerings.
