Del's Nicole DeJesus Wins CIS Ontario Poetry Contest!
CITE Spring Poetry Contest
During the month of May, students were asked to meditate on the promise of spring and consider the song, “The Waters of March” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, which contains the lyric:
“Afloat, adrift
A flight, a wing
A hawk, a quail
The promise of spring
And the riverbank talks
Of the waters of March
It's the promise of life
It's the joy in your heart”
Then, write a poem of no more than 100 words that contains the line, “the promise of spring”. Their poem could be imagistic, like Jobim’s, a narrative or some other genre of poetry.
Judges looked for creativity, precision in language and the use of memorable figurative language.
A total of 39 entries across our three divisions from 14 different CIS Ontario schools were submitted.
The winners were selected by members of the CITE Executive Committee.
