ALUMNI FEATURE – Ms. Julia Simone – class of 2019

If I could tell my high school self all about where I am now in life, at the very least, she would be extremely surprised. I graduated from De La Salle in 2019 and was excited to start my undergraduate degree at Western University. I knew from my time at Del, both through my academics as well as my extracurricular activities, that I had a passion for science. But that seemed to be where the clarity ended. At the time, I was considering every career that a science degree could lead to: teaching, research, medicine, academia. It was not until I gained exposure to an aspect of each of these options, whether that was through work, volunteer, or extracurricular experiences, that I was able to gain insight on what I was most passionate about.

I am incredibly grateful for my time at Del because I learned how to work and study effectively while also balancing other responsibilities in and outside of school. These skills are incredibly important because they allowed me to explore the things that interested me while also keeping up with schoolwork, course expectations and new social relationships I made along the way. It is not just what I learned in high school that prepared me, but how I learned.

I am excited to share that I will be starting my first year of medical school in August at the McMaster Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. I hope to continue applying the lessons I have learned and have since expanded upon from my time at Del moving forward.

If you are either a curious student or parent who has questions about Western University or McMaster University, please reach out and I would be happy to answer your questions.
